Teen River Camp at San Diego County's Camp Dragonfly

(Monday, July 8 – Friday, July 12, 2024)

This camp is open to NV Chapter campers (diagnosed patients and their siblings) who will be 13 to 18 years of age at the time of camp. 

NV Chapter Camp teens will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of a rafting adventure on the South Fork of the American River with San Diego County Hemophilia Association's Camp Dragonfly camp community.

Camp Dragonfly provides teens with the tools they need to overcome the challenges presented to them by their disorder as well as connect with peers, gain leadership skills, test personal limits, and the opportunity to commune with nature. By attending Camp Dragonfly, campers will experience camping and an outdoor program that challenges at both the individual and group levels. Come experience the beauty of the South Fork and the excitement and challenge that comes with whitewater rafting. This is a memorable adventure, perfect for those who have spent time on the river before or novice paddlers.

Professional medical staff from Rady Children’s Hospital Hemophilia & Thrombosis Treatment Center are on site for duration of the camp program.

Participants will be camping for five days and four nights at the ETC (Environmental Traveling Companions) River Camp’s riverfront property located in Lotus, CA. Along with rafting, participants will be sleeping under the stars (tent optional), cooking all meals in their full outdoor kitchen, and enjoying group activities and nightly campfires. Please note: there will be accessible bathrooms but no showers.

This camp is at no cost for our qualified community members. Space is limited and dependent on timely completed medical documentation for every camper.

COVID-PROTOCOLS

COVID vaccinations will not be required for participants.  We will however be practicing at camp, from pick-up to drop-up, the most current mask and safety recommended protocols. Campers will be informed and updated of these expectations prior to camp yet be prepared to wear masks during travel, while indoors, and in large groups at this time, except when not actively eating or drinking.

TRANSPORTATION

Airfare and transportation to the Lotus, CA river campsite is provided.

Travel to camp begins tentatively mid-morning to late afternoon of the first scheduled camp day with an early evening arrival.  

Travel from camp to their designated pick-up begins early afternoon with an anticipated early to mid-evening arrival, dependent on the camper's pick-up location.

• For Southern Nevada Residents: anticipate one-hour plane travel from Harry Reid INT Airport and at least a two-hour shuttle to camp. 
• For Northern Nevada Residents: anticipate a two-hour shuttle from Reno Airport to camp.

All camp details and camper information about next steps, including travel, expectations, preparations, what to bring, as well as packing directions for medications and personal items will be communicated in an NV Chapter Camp Programs - Camper Packet to the camper and family after the approval process is completed.

BEFORE APPLYING FOR CAMP

It is important to ensure you have all of the following information at hand, fulfilled requirements, and completed documents to upload during registration. Any missing information or documents may delay your camper's application approval process. Please ensure you have all the required camper information, including health information and documents, provided below, ready to upload, before completing your application.

You will need to provide and/or upload the following documents:

• Physicians Form: to be completed by your local HTC. Date of your camper's last comprehensive visit with the HTC but be within 12 months of the first day of camp (July 8) OR completed by primary care physician (if the camper does not have a bleeding disorder) showing physical examination within 12 months of the first day of camp (July 8). 
• Medications: complete list of medications your camper takes (includes but not limited to factor, other prescription meds, over-the-counter medications, inhalers, etc.)
• Insurance Card: copy of your camper's insurance card, front and back. 
• COVID-19 Vaccination: a copy of your camper’s COVID-19 vaccination card (full COVID vaccination required for all campers and staff; must be fully vaccinated 2 weeks prior to camp start date). 
• Immunization Records: a copy of your camper's immunization records, signed and validated by your primary care physician. The following immunizations/vaccinations are required: DTap (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis), MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella), Measles, Varicella (chicken pox), Polio, Hepatitis A & B, and COVID-19. 
• ETC Health & Liability Release: please complete this form and upload it when asked in the application.
